About Us
Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary is a UK charity based near Ingatestone, Essex, offering rescue, rehabilitation and lifetime care to horses, ponies, donkeys, goats, sheep and cats that have suffered neglect or abuse. The sanctuary was founded in 1983 and has been providing a safe and caring home for vulnerable animals ever since. Over 100 animals live under its care, many on long-term medication or requiring special attention. The team is dedicated to ensuring animal welfare through veterinary care, proper feeding, and a comfortable environment — their policy is never to euthanise solely because of old age or infirmity. Remus also works to raise awareness of equine welfare issues across the UK and offers a “Horse Welfare Watch” scheme for public reporting of animals at risk. The sanctuary relies entirely on public donations and volunteer support to continue providing life-changing care and rehabilitation.
