The National Museum of Rural Life is a unique museum, historic farmhouse and working farm in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It tells the story of rural life over the past few centuries — showing how land, people and farming practices shaped Scotland’s countryside. Inside the museum you’ll find Scotland’s largest collection of tractors, combine harvesters and farming machinery plus galleries about land use, tools, rural trades and everyday life on the land. Outside, the historic 400-year-old Wester Kittochside Farm invites visitors to meet cattle, pigs, sheep, horses and poultry; wander through old farm buildings; and explore the farmhouse once home to the Reid family for ten generations. With outdoor trails, tractor rides, a café, a picnic area and a play park, the museum offers a hands-on and immersive experience of Scotland’s rural heritage for families and history lovers alike.
